What is a precision shaft

/

/

There are many types of axes. Our common ones are mechanical drive shafts, motor shafts, fan shafts, screw shafts and crankshafts. Because the usage scenarios of the axes are different. The required precision is also different. For high-precision mechanical shafts, the accuracy is usually around ±0.0001". This precision shaft must be processed by high-precision CNC. After precision grinding, the surface roughness is generally controlled at around Ra0.2~0.4um. Diameter runout and end runout Tolerance is controlled at ±0.0002". It can be called a precision shaft. /

Which materials are suitable for the shaft
  • Carbon steel is often used in high-quality carbon steel such as 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 for shaft materials, especially 45 is the most widely used. Shafts made of high-quality carbon steel should usually be normalized or tempered to improve the mechanical properties of the material. Shafts that are not important or have less stress can be made of ordinary carbon steel, such as Q235A, Q255A, Q275A, and generally do not undergo heat treatment.

  • Alloy steel Alloy steel has better mechanical properties and heat treatability than carbon steel. However, it is more sensitive to stress concentration and the price is higher, so it is mostly used in occasions with special requirements such as heavy load, high temperature , small size , light weight, and good wear resistance. It should be pointed out that the elastic modulus difference between alloy steel and carbon steel is very small, so in the case of the same shape and size, replacing carbon steel with alloy steel cannot improve the rigidity of the shaft. In addition, when designing alloy steel shafts, care must be taken to reduce stress concentrations structurally and reduce their surface roughness.

Which materials are suitable for the shaft
  • Cast iron Ductile iron and high-strength cast iron are suitable for shafts with complex shapes or large rotating shafts. Its advantages are that no forging equipment is required, the price is cheap, the matrix has good absorption, and it is not sensitive to stress concentration; its disadvantage is that it has low impact toughness and it is difficult to control the quality of castings. Blanks come in two forms: bar and forged. The former is used for single piece small batch production,

/

/

  • Especially suitable for smooth shafts with similar diameters and stepped shafts with outer circles. For stepped shafts with large differences, forgings are usually used. Forgings can also achieve high tensile, bending and torsional strength. Single-piece small batch production generally uses free cross-sections, while mass production uses die forging. In mass production, if the seamless steel pipe blank with through holes is used, the material and processing volume can be greatly saved. The shaft belongs to the small and medium-sized shaft. In the heavy work of the reducer, it needs to bear various loads and impact loads, and has high fatigue resistance and good wear resistance, so the shaft material can use 45 steel to meet its requirements.

Machining Technology of Shaft Parts
    • Rough Turning - Semi-Finish Turning - Finish Turning For commonly used materials, this is the most important machining route for machining external surfaces.
    • Rough turning - semi-finishing - rough grinding - fine grinding For steel materials, when the requirements of high precision and small surface roughness value are required, and the parts need to be hardened, the subsequent processes are often ground.
    • Rough turning - semi-finishing turning - fine turning - diamond turning For non-ferrous metals, it is usually not suitable to obtain the required surface roughness by grinding, because non-ferrous metals are generally soft and easy to block the gaps between sand grains. Therefore, the final process mostly uses fine turning and diamond turning.

    • Rough turning - semi-finishing - rough grinding - fine grinding - finishing For hardened parts of iron and steel materials, this processing route is often used for high precision and small surface roughness requirements.

How We Make Precision Shaft Parts
Kamikawa Precision according to customer drawing requirements. All use high-precision CNC machining shaft parts.
For shaft parts requiring heat treatment. High frequency heat treatment is usually used between HRC45 and 50 degrees.
The surface is processed by a centerless grinder or a cylindrical grinder. The diameter tolerance can reach ±0.0001". The surface finish can reach Ra0.4~0.2um.

Kamikawa precision CNC machining classic case
Our CNC machining technology can not only process high-precision dimensions, but also provide customers with various surface treatment technologies. Many customers have relatively high requirements on the surface of their products, and some factories can meet the size requirements, but they always fail to do surface treatment. This makes customers very dissatisfied. If you choose to cooperate with us, we will provide you with unexpected technologies and services.
